Presentations can be divided into two major groups:

  • Those intended for Christian groups that are aimed at testifying to God’s greatness, for instruction and encouragement.
  • Those for secular audiences that provide a genuine service with a small Christian testimony (see professional talks link for titles).
Some talks can be given in either style- as a secular or as a Christian talk. How tolerant to Christian talks a group may be, is the decision for the local ministry.

1) Enhancing your personal effectiveness: Managing yourself and your resources
Audience: All

A 30-45 min PP talk for students, faculty, and staff on how to organize yourself for greater productivity with less effort. The level of evangelistic emphasis can be varied to suit the needs.

2) What we can learn from Deer

This is a 45 min talk that works well for “sportsmen’s Banquets” , and “wildgame Suppers” . It focuses on God’s design in nature and how that relates to man’s designed need for God. Includes some cutting-edge science on Deer and their capabilities.

3) Using technology to enhance your effectiveness
Audience: All professionals

Similar to the above with a focus on using computers, the WWW, email etc in an effective and efficient way.

4) Evidence of God in Human Physiology-
Audience: biology, general and sports medicine, physiology, general science, physical education, coaching

A 30-45 min PP show which discusses physiological evidence for creation from design, the inferiority of man's replication of human function, and the limits to our knowledge of human function.

5) Teaching the Bible, Leading Small groups-
Audience: This might be useful for staff or anyone doing Bible teaching, including student leaders.

I have completed a book manuscript on spiritual teaching.

6) How to make better grades and have more fun-
Audience: All students

A mild evangelistic or mostly secular talk (you decide) which focuses on improving grades with less effort through increase efficiency and ends with and enjoinder to students to consider how they will spend their lives. Generally lively and upbeat, it tends to be very popular with all undergraduate students. This can sometimes be tough cross-culturally, because the daily circumstances are so different. If this talk is requested outside of Western European cultures I will need a lot of info on culture and circumstances.

7) Stress relief
  • Exercise and reservation as stress relief (and it has other benefits too).
8) Thinking about teaching and leading Bible studies and other teaching applications.

This can be up to about 12 hours of seminar. Most likely it could be a 2-3 hour seminar with a short break in the middle. It involves a DISCUSSION about what makes effective teaching/leading based on the example of Christ, but also observations gleaned from over 30 years of teaching adults.

9) There are NO secular vocations
  • This talk deals with suggestions for how Christian students can look at their major and vocation.
Talks of especial benefit to faculty

10) What Distinguishes a Christian Professor's Teaching?
Audience: Christian faculty

How would Jesus teach? This examines teaching from the perspective of ministry. Purpose is to provoke us all to seek to better serve our students.

11) Ministry opportunities particular to lecturers.

This talks about what a great opportunity we have to witness for Christ in the college and in the community. Good for Christian faculty who haven’t already had a lot of training in inmtegrating faith and discipline..

12) Using technology to enhance your effectiveness
Audience: All professionals

Similar to the above with a focus on using computers, the WWW, email etc in an effective and efficient way.

13) What Distinguishes a Christian Professor's Teaching?

14) The Christian Call to Non-conformity
Audience: Teachers of all types

A 35-40 min PP examining spiritual aspects of teaching as ministry

Here is a sample one-page faculty testimony. I give this out to students who have already heard my short verbal testimony in a previous class.
